Baby Shower Planning

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

I am organising a baby shower at the moment and am looking for some things to make it really special. I was just going to make some food and get baby shower cakes. However, I think that it might be really good to make it a bit more special by making a bit more of an effort. There are going to be quite a few guests and also I think it will be a great opportunity to spoil my daughter, who the party is for. She will be very busy with the new baby and the baby will take the attention now and so it will be nice for her to have a nice party.

I think that I will get some lovely baby shower decorations to make the house look special and that should please her as she always likes things to look really nice. I hope that her friends will like it as well. I thought that it would make things look really special if I got some pretty baby shower favors to brighten up the table and it will mean that everyone will have a lovely little thing to take home with them as a memento of the party.

Three y/o unpotty trains his self?

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

My three y/o nephew has gone #2 in the potty for a LONG time now but lately he has gone #2 in his underwear. It is like the last 5 days! Two of the times it was after church. My sis-in-law just sees him holding his bottom (the back of his pants). And she doesn’t know what to do.

Could be as simple as his diet. Summer is a great time for eating fresh berries and melons but they are loaded with fiber. That can have a big impact on a little tummy.

The other thing to consider is that his mom has become a little more relaxed and confident in his ability to always go to the potty. She may be forgetting to ask him to go before they leave the house or not reminding him to let her know when he has to go so they can make it to the potty on time

When can I start solids?

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

I’ve heard people say around 6 months…or when the baby has doubled his/her birth weight? My baby is 3 months and 1 week old…is it too soon to start solids? …She’s definitely doubled her birth weight. Is it bad to start on a little bit of fruits before vegetables?

ok im know im going to get some thumbs down for this but thats just because some people are way too anal about babies and how to take care of them not realizing that every baby is different…..my baby is just about 3 months and ive started introducing him to some baby foods….just a little bit of sweet potatoes in the afternoon to get him used to the process….and i also put rice cereal in his bottles at night BIG WHOOP!!! he is happy and healthy…not constipated or anything contrary to what some truely believe….i know some who have started baby food as early as 2 months without problems….i also know some who actually put it in their baby’s bottle at about 6 weeks….i wouldnt do that but a little on a spoon is not a big deal especially if YOU feel your baby is ready.i have learned to stop asking baby questions on here because so any think that they are the end all be all of baby stuff.

Why do people say it don’t matter about a disabled child when its quit obvious it dose ?

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Well it matters in that the child will obviously have to be raised differently and the parents will probably be more stressed (more work than expected, social pressures, etc, etc), but other than that, it doesn’t matter. The child is a human being who needs to be cared for a nurtured just like a child who doesn’t not have a disability.

I can honestly say that in my 33 years of life I’ve never heard anyone say “it don’t matter about a disabled child”, that is a sweeping generalisation which holds no truth in modern society.

Diet/weightloss/after 4 kids/?

Friday, June 6th, 2008

23 and 4 kids. WOW! Are you done? It’s really important to let your body be healthy especially since you are responsible for all those babies! I like The Firm DVD’s! It’s quick and effective! You may always have a little skin if you had c-sections cause they cut your stomach muscles. The hangover will only go away with a tummy tuck but they’re expensive and you have to be in good shape to get one. The hangover can be a lot smaller if your body fat is lower and your muscle mass increases. Try to eat fresh, healthy food, try organic fruits and veges! Protein with every meal and a lot of vegetables and fruit! Non fat, hormone free milk and 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. Fat free vanilla soy milk in some oatmeal or high fiber cereal every morning. It’s so tasty! You can also make your own organic baby food with a blender or food processor! Do your cardio every day if you can, walking with all your babies is great! And don’t forget to lift weights! It’ll make you happier and you’ll be stronger and firmer! Go on SparkPeople.com and see some of their recipes and exercises! Also, if you get FitTV it has some really fun exercise shows with minimal investment in workout equipment, some dumbbells and maybe a stability ball!

What do you do with a 15month old girl who holds her breath till she gets what she wants ?

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

I agree that you should *usually* not give in to your child. What my doctor told me to do when my daughter used to hold her breath (she passed out more than 10 times, including in a store once) was to lay her down so that she would be safe and then leave the room. It is one of the hardest things I have ever done, but it does work.

A 15-month-old is not aware of the fact that she is going to pass out. She *is* aware that her behavior is scaring you, so leaving the room means she is not getting the attention that she wanted and it helps eliminate the behavior.

The most difficult thing to understand is that nothing bad will actually happen to your child if she’s lying down at the time (if she isn’t, she could fall and get hurt). I still find it hard to see a child holding his or her breath, despite knowing this.
