Booking a Good Hotel

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

I am trying to choose one of a selection of ogunquit ME hotels for my husband as he is going there on a business trip soon. He has asked me to find him something as he hasn’t got time. There are a lot of ogunquit maine hotels and I have a certain budget and so it is taking me some time to look through and find something which is in a good location for him and also in budget. It is not that the hotels are too expensive but that there is such a big range of them and I want to make sure that he gets the best that he can for the top budget that he has.

His company are paying and allow him a certain amount of money per night and it is nice if he can get the best possible. It is a business trip after all and he will be missing his family and I think there is nothing worse than having a hard day at work, getting back to the hotel and it not being very nice. There are lots of good ogunquit hotels and so it is pretty hard to choose, hopefully I will make the right decision.

Dip buzz or cigarette buzz?

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Which buzz do you like better? What do you like better overall? Do you like the dipping ritual better or the smoking rituals better? any comparison would be nice.

And i know both are bad for you and they both can possibly give you cancer. ive had years of DARE and tv commercials and the whole 9 yards of education on it.

ave a fat dip in as i’m writing this. i’m from Texas and i played baseball and golf, and my dad and all my uncles dip so it was only a matter of time for me. the first time my mom found a can she yelled at me for dipping and my dad yelled at me for dipping skoal. i only dip original copenhagen long cut which is about the best you can get. i hate pouches because they don’t last very long and there isn’t as much for the price. i’m currently in a stage where i dip much more often than i smoke because my girlfriend hates smoking and i can hide dip. i love it because i can pack a fat one while i’m sitting on my couch watching a game and its great for in the library when i’m studying and i even dip on airplanes. i can’t think of anything more relaxing than a dip in bed or while i’m dropping a deuce. i much prefer it for long drives because i can keep the window down and make it last as long as i want. you don’t smell it and its easy to pull it out and wash your mouth out. there are also several problems. the first is that girls find it disgusting. i’ve met some that think the lump in the lip is cute, but i haven’t met one that isn’t grossed out by spitting brown juice everywhere. spitting is another problem. i’m consantly tipping over spit cups and getting it on my clothes and no one wants to walk into your house and see a cup with wadded up paper in it drenched in dip spit. its more difficult to do outside when its hot because it gives cottonmouth really bad and you can’t just toss it and walk into a building because of the remnants that will be in your teeth. it will also stain your teeth much quicker and if you’ve had braces it will cause crowding on the bottom. its also much harder to bum a dip than a cigarette. in the South its better because more people do it, but in the North i hardly see anyone with a dip in.

to tell you the truth love them both. i smoke when i’m out at a bar or if someone else is and i dip when i’m inside and just trying to relax. to answer the first question, i liked the buzz of dip a lot better. it goes away after doing it for a few weeks, but its more intense because there’s more nicotine. a can of dip only has about 10 good dips in it and a pack of cigarettes has 20, but they even out because you won’t dip as often and you can keep a dip in much longer. in conclusion, if its only the ups you’re looking for then you can’t go wrong, and the downs just about even out. good luck and i hope you make the right choice.

Can simple syrup be made with powdered sugar

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

i am trying to make a simple syrup and i do not want to drive to the store to buy regular sugar especially when i have 2 lbs of powdered sugar available

it will just dissolve quicker
Confectioners’ sugar is ground to different degrees of fineness, the most common of which are XXX, XXXX, and 10X, where the grains are finer as the number of Xs increases.

Because confectioners’ sugar dissolves almost instantly, it is generally used in dishes and recipes that don’t require cooking, such as icings, sauces, and some candies. You can cook with confectioners’ sugar, but very few people do. First, it is about twice as expensive by weight as granulated sugar. Then you have to use 1-3/4 cups for every cup of granulated sugar, making it nearly twice as expensive again.

—–

I don’t think you’ll get the same result from powdered sugar because of the way that regular sugar dissolves. You want a homogenous mixture, and confectioners sugar probably won’t produce the desired result.

Honestly, you should have regular, white sugar anyway… so you might as well get some. You could try making the simple syrup with powdered, but you may end up wasting it.

Recipes for school lunches?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Snacks, sandwitchs, wraps…or any tips on how to store.

Lunchboxes rule! Letting your kiddo pick their own will go a long way in keeping them using it.

Boxes hold a lot more, a lot safer, than plain bags. You can get plain hard plastic ones, or you can get the squishy but insulated ones. Either way, if you want to keep things cold you need ice packs. Our boxes ($5 from Dollar General) came with a self contained sheet of smaller ones. I LOVE IT. You have more cooling area, and because they’re smaller pieces together you have some flexibility in how you use it. IE you can wrap it around a specific item OR just line one side of the whole box.

And don’t forget the thermos! Thermoses keep apple juice cool, but they can also keep all sorts of things hot too! Soup, Canned Pastas, Chicken Fingers, … the list goes on… just see what you can cram in there!

For my kids… usually the following…

1 - main course… sandwich, nuggets, etc.
2 - veggie… usually carrots (I cheat and use the precut/washed ones) with some dressing
3 - fruit… my kids love mand. oranges.
4 - dessert… pudding, a cookie, a poptart, etc.
5 - drink… juice, etc… or give them $ to get a carton of MILK at school!

Usually I let the kiddos have a say, but within the list of ‘appropriate’ items. Makes them feel like it really is THEIR lunch, and helps to keep mom from forgetting!!

—–

My kids like it when every once in a while I pack them a sandwich made with cream cheese w/chives spread, roast beef, and spinach or arugula (for a change)
But usually its the same old ham or turkey sandwich with a fruit and veggie. Kind of boring but at least it’s healthy. Sometimes I will cut an apple in half, scoop the core out and fill it with peanut butter and cinnamon, they like that.
They have come home with ideas before, like asking me to give them cereal in a tupperware so they can use their lunch milk with it, or I do have a thermos for soup that has a little spoon in the lid that I use sometimes in the cold months.

——

My sack luck almost every day is this some kinda of 100 calorie snack, and allstar gatorade, a wrap with ham lettuce cheese and ranch wraped in foil, and a lit n fit yogurt! I dont know if this help but i took this almost everyday Jr. and Sr year in high school! Never got old! But I do recoment foil and not sandwich bags or seran wrap because it keeps everything where you first put it! no spills no messy bags to reach into, and it cheaper!

Crockpot recipes?

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

I need some good crock pot recipes that i can throw in the pot the night before, refrigerate, and then put on low all day when I am at work. Any suggestions? The only thing that I make in my crockpot is taco soup and queso. I am on a budget and need stuff that I can eat as leftovers for a couple of days. Any information will be appreciated.

Make 3 meals with 1 meat
The first day cook the meat ( I like to use a pork butt) and eat it that way
The next day take some out and pit bbq sauce on it for sandwhiches and the last night make this

Mexican Roll Ups
This is something I made up its a great way to use left over meat.

Use one of your choice
Shredded Chicken, shredded beef or shredded pork
Put in skillet with 1 pkg of taco seasoning
Add enough water so that you may simmer it, not to much

After simmering like 20 min
Place small amount in to soft burrito shell, I like to use the large ones.
Roll them up and secure with toothpicks
In deep fryer or skillet, brown til golden brown
They will be crunchy
Serve with sour cream, salsa or gucamole

Dont forget to remove toothpicks !!!!

This is also a great recipe I leave out theh pepperoni]

This is really great ! I have also just made it a skillet on the stove.

Brush chicken with butter and layer in crockpot, sprinkling dry Italian seasoning mix over each layer. Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 7 hours.

About 45 minutes before done, brown the onion in the 2 tablespoons chicken broth and then add the cream cheese, soup, salt and pepper and 1/2 cup chicken broth to the saucepan. Remove chicken to platter and stir sauce before putting into gravy bowl

What is a good side to go with this?

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

I found this recipe through answers, and don’t know what to cook with it.

Spicy Stuffed Chicken Thighs

INGREDIENTS
10 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
5 hot Italian sausage links, casings removed
1 green bell pepper, diced
1 onion, diced (optional)
8 ounces canned diced tomatoes, with juices
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Preheat oven at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Find the places where the thigh bones have been removed from the chicken, and stuff the spaces with sausage. Place on a 10×13-inch ungreased baking pan. Place bell pepper and onion around the chicken. Pour tomatoes and their juices over the chicken, and season with Italian seasoning and crushed red pepper flakes.
Bake in preheated oven until chicken is thoroughly cooked, about 45 minutes.

Hi!
I would either go with a zucchini/yellow squash veggie side dish (cut up in large bite size pieces and flash cooked in garlic and olive oil) saute’ style ok?
or a rice side
either way since your main dish is spicy you may want to go the other taste direction with the side dish for balance.

——

A good side dish would be like a Mandarin style salad using fresh baby spinach, red cabbage, baby onions, baby carrots, baby peas and yes you guessed it, baby corn.

I would suggest a mild Italian dressin

40th Birthday Party - Outside (pool, dancing) - Menu Ideas?

Monday, June 9th, 2008

I’m throwing a 40th birthday party with about 50 - 60 people.
It’s outside at the end of June (so temps around the mid 90s)
We are planning on swimming, dance floor, and of course food and beverages.

What are some easy (and cheap) ideas to feed this many people - ages will range from 3 years up to 60.???

That venue screams BBQ - tandoori chicken, mini burgers, hot dogs, veggie kabob, red peppers on the BBQ stuffed w/feta

‘d stay away from hot meals - stay with nice cool stuff since it might be hot out. sandwich trays, pasta salads and potato salads, fruit trays, maybe BBQ hot dogs or burgers and corn on the cob, taco dips, chips and dip, veggie trays, baked beans in a crock pot…most of these you can pick up premade form the grocery store or Sams Club to help save you time. Make sure to keep them all on trays of ice to help keep them cool outside- or else just leave all the food indoors and make sure it’s kept cold- just serve smaller amounts at a time and replenish when necessary.

………..

Manhattan Meatballs
Fix meatballs (either frozen or homemade… there are lots of easy recipes online)
Cover meatballs with 1 cup BBQ sauce and 12 ounces of pineapple preserves (Multiply amounts as needed).
These are so easy and so good.

Everyone loves a fruit salad. Make a bunch of it… and then make some fruit dip.
An easy one: mix 1 big jar of marshmallow fluff with 2 bars of cream cheese. I can never make enough of it for my guests!!!

Kids love to limbo… and so do drunken adults, so maybe try that!

…………….

Tell them to bring what they like. All you have to do is supply the plates, cups, utensils, rolls and condiments. That way no one is dissatisfied with your menu of choice.
